Clear vs. consider statuses
Every candidate moves through a clear set of statuses, from application to final decision. They keep reviews fast and consistent across your whole team.
What each status means
| Status | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| In progress | The candidate is completing their application, or searches are still running | Wait — most sections fill in progressively |
| Completed | All searches have finished and results are in | Review the report |
| Cleared | No records matched your criteria | Nothing — move forward |
| Review | A record was found that your criteria flag for review | Review against your adjudication rules before deciding |
| Adverse | The adverse action process has been started | Follow the required notice steps |
| Disputed | The candidate has disputed something on the report | Pause any decision until the reinvestigation resolves |
Why not pass/fail?
Ethur reports facts; the hiring decision is always yours. A review status doesn't mean do not hire — it means a record exists and your own criteria decide what happens next. This keeps you consistent and compliant.
