Candidate disputes

If a candidate believes information on their report is inaccurate or incomplete, the FCRA gives them the right to dispute it. Ethur handles the reinvestigation for you.

How a dispute works

  • The candidate opens their report in the portal and chooses Dispute
  • They describe what's wrong and can upload supporting documents
  • Ethur reinvestigates with the original data source
  • Both you and the candidate are notified of the outcome

What you should do as an employer

  • Pause any adverse action process until the dispute resolves
  • Don't make a final decision on a disputed report — wait for the reinvestigation
  • Disputes are typically resolved within 30 days, often much faster
